#004 - 1995 Mazda Miata

Feature #004 takes us to, you guessed it, another Mazda Miata in a classic Miata red driven by Lorena “Nena” Enrique. Lorena drives and competes in Spec Miata with team Lead Foot Racing. Can you tell I like Miata’s?

“I’ve always loved cars but there was something about racing that really connected with me. The focus, competition, and constantly trying to improve.” - Lorena

Lorena at Pueblo Motorsports park, Colorado.

Lorenas interest in motorsports started in a way that is familiar to many car enthusiasts around the world, as a teenager through the Fast & Furious movies. Paul Walker was, and is still today, one of Lorenas first racing inspirations. Later in 2023 she watched the Gran Turismo movie and learned about Jann Mardenborough, a British professional racing driver who went from sim racer to a factory motorsport athlete. Mardenbourough’s journey from sim racing to real racing made Lorena realize that this was something she was capable of pursuing, even without a traditional racing background. In may 2024, at the age of 18, Lorena decided to give it a shot.

In November 2024 Lorena attended the Allen Berg Racing School in California, where she learned the fundamentals of track driving and earned her racing license. It was her first real experience being on track, and made her want to keep getting more involved in racing. This year, in March, Lorena started volunteering with Red Rocks Racers at Grand Junction Motor Speedway. This has given her the opportunity to be around the local motorsports scene, meet a lot of awesome people, and learn a lot by just being around the track. Lorena has also competed in two seasons of the Grand Junction Motor Speedway sim racing league, finishing 5th in the first season and 3rd in the second.

This eventually brought Lorena to LeadFoot Racing where she joined as a rookie Spec Miata driver, making her competitive racing debut at High Plains Raceway in August 2026. In October I went to the racetrack to meet Lorena and team Leadfoot Racing at Pueblo Motorsports Park. I had the opportunity to hang out with LeadFoot Racing to learn about the cars, the racing, and the people behind the team. They even invited me to have lunch with them, a great thing to be offered on a hot and sunny race day. LeadFoot Racing provides an amazing support system for racers like Lorena, who is passionate and eager to learn all there is about it.
